Kohima, 4 September (MTNews): Advisor for School Education Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome today admitted that his department is in a “total mess” and that they are bringing total reformation in the department. Addressing media persons in Kohima, Yhome said that for the last five months, the department has done a comprehensive survey on the various issues affecting the department.
He said the department would be streamlining issues such as cadre review, seniority list, proxy teachers, etc.
Informing that with a total of 1939 government schools in the state at present, the Advisor viewed that there will be an acute shortage of teachers in the government schools in the next 15 months, as around 323 teachers will be retiring by December 2024.
He said around 1700 crore rupees is being spent just for the staff and teachers of the Education department, and that the department has become a huge liability to the government exchequer.
Dr Yhome also informed that there are currently 178 legal cases against the department.
