In a letter addressed to the General Manager of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), SAYO emphasized the inconvenience faced by the public and commuters due to the deplorable condition of the highway and has issued an ultimatum to the NHIDCL, urging them to expedite the construction of the road stretch and ensure its completion by 25 November 2023 without any hindrance.

According to SAYO, the affected National Highway stretch serves as the main road connectivity for the people of Southern Angami Villages. Additionally, it provides direct connectivity to significant tourist destinations in the region. Of particular note is the upcoming 10-day Annual Hornbill Festival, set to commence in December 2023. The festival is expected to draw local, domestic, and international tourists and visitors to the region.

However, SAYO pointed out that despite waiting for the completion of the road for many years, the current state of the highway continues to not only be causing inconvenience from all quarters but has been an embarrassment for the region.

As a result of the urgency surrounding this matter, SAYO has issued an ultimatum to the NHIDCL, urging them to expedite the construction of the road stretch and ensure its completion by 25 November 2023 without any hindrance.

It reminded that this ultimatum comes after a previous ultimatum issued on 17 February 2022, titled ‘Letter for prompt remedial action and expediting repair for National Highway 02, between Naga Heritage Village, Kisama-Khuzama Police Check Post stretch’.

While expressing faith in the NHIDCL’s ability to improve and maintain road connectivity, SAYO earnestly requested the NHIDCL authority to undertake the work in response to the issue served.

“Failing to comply with the same, the agency responsible for maintaining the road will be liable to any untoward turn of event and action,” SAYO stated in its ultimatum appended by its president Metekhrielie Mejura and General Secretary Metevizo Sophie.
