Mokokchung, 24 October (MTNews): The Jemtimenba Mollier Foundation (JMF) Meritorious Award for Excellence in Ao Literature was successfully held at the Ao Senden Conference Hall in Mokokchung, where nineteen scholars were honored with cash prizes and certificates on the occasion.
Thirteen students who scored the highest marks in Ao language from 2020-2023 in the Nagaland Board of School Education examination were recognized. They include Toshisangla of Clark Memorial Hr. Sec School, Impur (Class X) in 2020, Sungjemnenla from Mayangnokcha Govt. Hr. Sec. School (Class XII) in 2020, Atula W Mongro of Nagaland Christian Residential School, Mokokchung (Class X) in 2021, Imsuwaden from Clark Memorial Hr. Sec School, Impur (Class XII) in 2023, Moakala Longchari from Children School, Mokokchung (Class X) in 2022, Aosenla from Mount Moriah School, Ungma (Class X) in 2022, Temsuyanger from Clark Memorial Hr. Sec School, Impur, Lanukokla from Town Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung, and Moatila from Clark Memorial Hr. Sec School, Impur (Class X) in 2022. Additionally, Alempongla Longchar from Queen Mary Hr. Sec School, Mokokchung (Class XII) in 2022, and Zuluienla T Jamir from Queen Mary Hr. Sec School, Mokokchung, along with Lensen Ozüküm from Clark Memorial Hr. Sec School, Impur (Class X) in 2023, and Nungtetmenla Jamir from Queen Mary Hr. Sec School, Mokokchung (Class XII) in 2023, were awarded cash prizes and certificates.
The Foundation also recognized the first position holders in the Ao Arangtet Tatidang (Ao Literature examination conducted by the Ao Riju, constituted by the Ao Senden). The recipients included Kajenmenla Jamir, Arangtet Diploma Tenren (ADT) (2021); Putusen, Arangtet Certificate Tenren (ACT), 2021; Rongsenlemla Pongen, Arangtet Diploma Tenren (ADT) 2022; Alisenla, Arangtet Diploma Tenren (ADT), 2023; Tzuwazenla Jmr, Post Graduate Diploma Tenren (PGDT), 2022; and Akumyanger, Post Graduate Diploma Tenren (PGDT), 2023, who were presented with cash prizes and certificates for excelling in the exams.
During the program, Sentinenla, District Education Officer, spoke as the guest of honor and expressed appreciation to the foundation for its efforts in promoting Ao Literature. She emphasized the importance of preserving one’s identity through the mother tongue, especially considering the trend of using Nagamese or other foreign languages in some Ao households in Kohima and Dimapur. She urged everyone to prioritize the preservation of the Ao Mother tongue as a precious cultural asset.
I Temjen Tzudir, Secretary of JMF, in his remarks, shared that The Jemtimenba Mollier Foundation (formerly Jemtimenba Mollier Trust) was established in 2014 with a specific focus on promoting Ao literature. Since its inception, JMF has been conducting various programs such as training, seminars, essay and quiz competitions, spell bees, and symposiums. He also mentioned that starting in the next academic session, Ao literature as a subject would be offered at Clark Theological College under the auspices of Ao Senden.
Dr Tali Imsong, JMF Chairman, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing that Ao distinctiveness lies in its use of the Mother Tongues – Chungli and Mongsen.
The program also featured a melodious performance by the students of Christian Residential Higher Secondary School.
