The tournament is envisaged to be a plastic-free event
The first edition of Inter-Department Sports Tournament 2023, Mokokchung District under the aegis of District of Planning & Development Board got under way here today at Multi-Sport Complex, Mokokchung.
During the inaugural program, Additional Deputy Commissioner and convener of the organizing committee, Chumlamo Humtsoe while delivering the welcome note, maintained that the sports event was conceived to provide an avenue for public servants irrespective of their official designation to come together as mutual participants. He also underscored the importance of games and sports in maintaining physical fitness and health. The ADC also encouraged the public servants to be role models in combating plastic pollution and envisaged the tournament to be a plastic-free event.

Manoj Kumar, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung while sharing his greetings on the occasion said the inter-departmental sports meet serves as a platform to bring officers and subordinates from the various departments together for a casual interaction and build stronger human relationship. Representatives from Ao Senden attending the event also shared their greetings to all the participants.

During the three-day sports event, competitions will be held in the disciplines of Badminton, Table Tennis, Carom, Chess and Arm Wrestling.
Mokokchung District Badminton Association and Mokokchung District Table Tennis Association are assisting the DPDB in conducting the two events.

Highlights of the Tournament:
· The Tournament is exclusively for employees of all state government departments based/posted in Mokokchung District. Departments/agencies under central governments as well as CPSEs/Banks/Assam Rifles/Territorial Army are also invited to participate in the meet.
· The various disciplines are being played in the following categories: Badminton – Men Singles, Men Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Women Singles; Table Tennis – Men Singles, Men Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Women Singles; Carrom – Men Singles, Men Doubles, Women Singles, Women Doubles; Chess – Open; Arm Wrestling – Men, Women.
· There will be cash prizes and certificates for all winners and runners-up in each category, along with am over-all Champions Trophy for the department with the highest points at the end of the tournament.
· All players are required to participate with proper jerseys of their respective departments.
· Only bonafide government employees are eligible for participation and the players are required to produce government issued IDs as proof of identity.
· The Inter-Departmental Tournament strives to be a plastic-free and waste-free event. All departments have been instructed not to litter or leave any waste unattended. All employees have also been instructed to bring their own water bottles to minimize the usage of disposable cups.
· Food stall has been allotted to Mokokchung District Badminton Association (MDBA) in view of the upcoming North-East Invitational Badminton Tourney.
· There will be a football exhibition match between DC XI (all civil government departments) and SP XI (all uniformed personnel). Team in-charges will be SDO (C) and Dy. SP (Reserve), respectively.
