Mokokchung, 8 December (MTNews): The North East Students’ Organization (NESO), an umbrella body of major students’ associations in the NE India region, will observe December 11 as a “black day” at several places across the Northeast states to mark its continued opposition against the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019.
In a statement issued today, NESO chairman Samuel Jyrwa and general secretary Mutsikhoyo Yhobu said despite the relentless opposition of the indigenous peoples of the Northeast against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, the ‘draconian law’ was passed by the parliament.
“NESO, has declared that the 11th December will always be remembered as a Black Day for the whole of the North East. So, in continuation of this Observation of this Black Day, the NESO has decided that there will be a display of Black Flags and Black Banners in all the important places of all the seven states on the 11th of December 2023,” the organization said.
NESO said this observation is to give a message to the government that the people in the region are against CAA. At the same time, it will remind the people of the region and their posterity about yet another political injustice that the government perpetrated against the indigenous peoples of the Northeast, NESO said.
“So NESO, calls upon all the people of the North East to support this observation and at the same time to keep on fighting for the just cause which is our God given right,” NESO added.
