Wokha, 14 January (MTNews): The 28th Winter Cricket Challenge organized by Senior Noble Klan under the aegis of Nagaland Cricket Association concluded on Sunday with Highlanders successfully defending their Championship against LCYO. The event, held in collaboration with Forest Division Wokha, showcased exceptional cricketing talent.
The final match, a face-off between LCYO and Highlanders, saw LCYO winning the toss and opting to bat first. They set a target of 103 runs in 20 overs, losing all wickets in the process. The top scorers for LCYO included Rendemo (11), Renben Kikon (10), Renjanthung (10), Epithung (15), and Thechamo (13).
The Highlanders lost their opening pair cheaply. However, the number 3 and 4 batsmen, Asif and Mughavi, showcased outstanding resilience. Both remained unbeaten at 46 and 38 runs respectively, steering Highlanders to victory and securing the Championship. Asif’s remarkable performance in the final earned him the title of Man of the Match, as he not only contributed 46 runs but also claimed 2 wickets with the ball.
Asif’s stellar performances throughout the tournament did not go unnoticed. He was rightfully crowned the Man of the Tournament, accumulating 141 runs and claiming 8 wickets in total.
The champions, Highlanders, were rewarded with a generous cash prize of Rs 1 lakh sponsored by the Senior Noble Klan, certificates, a trophy, and tree saplings. Meanwhile, the runners-up, LCYO, received a cash prize of Rs 50k, along with certificates and tree saplings.
In the category of individual prizes, Asif, the Man of the Tournament, received a certificate and an Android phone sponsored by Mr Kumchen Mury. Additionally, Mhajan Patton was recognized as the best upcoming cricketer and was presented with a kit bag sponsored by Base Strong (BS), a Cricket kit manufacturer based in Meerut.
