Mokokchung, 19 January (MTNews): During the 71st Plenary of the North East Council (NEC), Government of India, held in Shillong today, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio informed that the Government of Nagaland is pursuing the construction of an airport at Ciethu, Kohima, for better connectivity. He also mentioned that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the construction of the Foothills Road, or the Trans-Nagaland State Highway, has been submitted to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for approval.
He further added that the state is also pushing to set up an Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER) in Nagaland. “We have requested the Centre to consider converting the Medical College at Kohima into a Central Institute like AIIMS or a Regional Institute like RIMS,” added the Chief Minister.
Taking to the social media platform X, Rio tweeted about how their government remains committed to infrastructure development, which he said is the most important catalyst for all kinds of progress. “We reaffirm our commitment to the shared vision of a prosperous and harmonious North East by working collaboratively and leveraging the unique strengths of each State,” he added.
The council had the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah and all the Governors and Chief Ministers of North East India. Home Minister Amit Shah claimed that the last 10 years of the Modi government have been a “golden era” for the Northeast.
“With an unprecedented focus on infrastructure development and conflict resolution, the region is today shifting away from its history of blockades and unrest and pacing towards creating a peaceful and developed Northeast,” Shah tweeted.
