Mokokchung, 24 January (MTNews): Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Mokokchung conducted its Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting on 24th January 2024 to approve its action plan (2024-25).
The meeting commenced with a keynote address from Senior Scientist & Head, Dr Keviletsu Khate, followed by a presentation highlighting the activities undertaken in 2023-24, based on the recommendations from the SAC in 2023. The Action Plan for the year 2024-25 was then presented for deliberation and approval.
Some key recommendations for the Action Plan 2024-25 by the Scientific Advisory Committee members include conducting more trials on millets to determine the optimal sowing time and reduce bird-related issues, demonstrating and promoting better quality protein maize, revitalizing oilseed production in Tsurangkong Block to utilize fallow periods effectively, and increasing cropping intensity per year under TRC. Additionally, the committee suggested more technology trials on Jhum fallow management, promoting technologies for post-harvest and storage losses in vegetables and field crops, and including Chungtia village with Aliba and Kiununger villages for technology application to address the decrease in off-season cucumber production.
In terms of extension and outreach activities, the committee recommended broader block coverage in technology application and dissemination, publishing block-specific annual cropping calendars for farmers to enhance cropping intensity, and developing district/block contingency plans to mitigate climate abnormalities and pest issues. Regarding the linkage of technology application and development, the committee suggested extensive collaborative efforts with allied departments to provide farmers with need-based solutions.
The Chairman, Scientific Advisory Committee cum District Agriculture Officer, Mokokchung, delivered the closing remarks and approved the Action Plan 2024-25 for onward submission to ATARI, Zone VII. The committee members present included the Joint Director, SARS, Divisional Forest Officer, Chief Veterinary Officer, District Soil Conservation Officer, Assistant Registrar Co-operative Societies, District Sericulture Officer, Farm Radio Officer (AIR), and Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, as the member secretary.
