Mokokchung, 6 March (MTNews): The Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO) on Wednesday directed the Mao citizens residing within Angami jurisdiction to “return to their respective native villages as per customary norm” over the long-standing land dispute at Kezoltsa area between the two neighboring communities.
In a press release, SAPO president Tepul Hopovi and general secretary Swelul Pucho said it was compelled issue the directive “since the Mao Council had totally failed to vacate and withdraw the Manipur Security Forces which was established at the disputed Kezoltsa, at their behest, with ulterior motive.”
“This action is necessitated to de-escalate pent up tensions, prevent untoward incidents and for safety and protection of Mao Citizens, living under the Angami jurisdiction,” SAPO added.
Manipur DGP writes to Nagaland counterpart for adequate security
Meanwhile, Rajiv Singh, Director General of Police Manipur, Imphal has requested his Nagaland counterpart Rupin Sharma to provide adequate security to the people of Mao community residing in Nagaland.
In a letter to the Nagaland DGP, the Manipur DGP referred to the SAPO press release issued on Wednesday “directing the public of Mao Community residing in Angami jurisdiction within Nagaland to return to their respective native village, for failing to vacate and withdraw the Manipur Security Force stationed at Dzuko Valley.”
“This development is causing concern and panic among the Mao Community residing in Manipur and Nagaland,” he added.
As such, he requested the Nagaland DGP to “kindly take appropriate action in this regard and also to provide adequate security to the people of Mao Community residing in Nagaland.”
