Smt. IMDANGLEMLA AIER was born on 14th December, 1944 in Mopungchuket Village, Mokokchung District. She did her Bachelor of Arts at Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung. She is a dedicated and well known social worker with vast experiences in both political and social development. As the wife of Late Koramoa Jamir, former Minister, Government of Nagaland, Smt. Aier started her public service and political work in 1968. Since then, for more than 50 years, she has been actively involved in matters dealing with public interest and politics at national, state and local levels.
She has also been instrumental in leading various social forums, especially on women’s issues. Breaking the glass ceiling, Smt. Aier was also the first woman in Nagaland to be nominated as candidate to the Rajya Sabha by a national political party. She was also the first woman member to be nominated to the Mokokchung Town Committee.
Smt. Imdanglemla has served as the President of the Watsü Mungdang for two consecutive terms from 1987-89. She has served as a Member of the State Social Welfare Advisory Board in 1988-89, Mokokchung Town Committee Member in 1989-90, Chairperson of the Nagaland State Social Welfare Board from 1998-2004, Chairperson of the State Level Working Committee on Women Empowerment from 2001-04. Smt. Aier serves as a Managing Board Member of various schools in Mokokchung, namely Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School, Fazl Ali College, and Pongentola Government Middle School. She is a recipient of the Distinguished Citizen Award, 2016 from the District Office of the Social Welfare Department, Mokokchung, Nagaland.
A mother of five children and grandmother of twelve grandchildren, Smt. Imdanglemla Aier continues to be an energetic and dedicated social worker and her commitment – both as a leader and citizen – to serve the community and society continues to be an inspiration and living testimony for people cutting across age, gender, regions, or economic, or social background.
