The Janata Dal United (JD(U)) Nagaland has expressed strong support for the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU)’s demand to upgrade Khelhoshe Polytechnic, Atoizu (KPA) into a full-fledged engineering college.
In a press release issued today by Senchumo NSN Lotha, President of JD(U) Nagaland, and Imsumongba Pongen, General Secretary of JD(U) Nagaland, the JD(U) Nagaland considered this upgrade a crucial necessity for the state, highlighting the lagging state of technical education in Nagaland compared to other states in India.
“All the states of the country have at least one full fledged Engineering College and in that the State of Nagaland is way behind,” the party stated.
The party noted that the drain of students from Nagaland for want of technical education outside is increasing every year and has implicating huge financial constraints on the Nagas as a whole.
JD(U) expressed disappointment that successive governments in Nagaland have neglected the critical area of educational development, both at the school and college levels.
“Health, Education and Roads are the three basic requirements that lays the foundation towards a welfare state. Education being the centre of these three basic domains in the affairs of good governance, the Nagaland Government must wake up with never too late approach and radically work towards reformation of education,” it added.
Nagaland currently faces economic stagnation, which affects various aspects of life and creates an uncertain future for its society, the party stated. In light of these challenges, JD(U) called on the current government to emphasis on advancement of education in Nagaland as the ‘top priority in its agenda of good governance.’
The party believed that upgrading the KPA into full-fledged Engineering College can be the first step.
