Mapujungla Pongen, the NDPP candidate from Artang Ward, officially declared her candidacy today at the Artang Ward Community Hall for the upcoming Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) election. During a mass declaration program, the candidate expressed her gratitude to the residents of Artang Ward for their support in securing the NDPP ticket.

“It is through our collective effort that we have secured this ruling government ticket. Just as they have trusted us with this opportunity, I encourage everyone to pledge your support to our government and strive for victory in this election,” she stated.

Pongen outlined her vision for Artang Ward, emphasizing the need for better infrastructure, economic development, and an improved quality of life. She aims to transform Artang into a recreational and educational hub for future generations; a goal she believes is attainable with the community’s support.

Her vision extends beyond Artang Ward to include improving sanitation and addressing water scarcity issues throughout the entire town.

Pongen also expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to run as a female candidate, thanking all the women who have supported her. She highlighted the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023, describing it as rare legislation that she believes will bring significant changes and development to the region.

She urged the people to support the ruling NDPP party. “People of Artang, instead of being on the losing side, let’s come together and be on the winning side in this election,” she encouraged.

Mangyangnungba, President of NDPP Mokokchung Region, also spoke at the event. He emphasized the positive changes that could occur if a ruling party candidate wins and highlighted the advantages of being aligned with the ruling party. He encouraged the community to make wise decisions and vote for NDPP candidate Mapujungla Pongen.

Short speeches were also delivered by Lika (Kosasanger Putu Menden, Ungma); Artang Ward Yimden; Longkhum Putu Menden; 25 Mongoya AC, NDPP; Asangla Longchar, VP, CWO, NDPP Nagaland; and Lipokzulu, former member of the Mokokchung Town Committee.

The program was chaired by Temsuyangla, AGS, Youth Organization, NDPP Artang Unit. The invocation was given by Atula, Associate Pastor Women ABC, and the benediction was offered by Tiayanger, Longsa Senso Missionary.
