Today, in a significant development for the Municipal Council elections in Nagaland, five candidates each from the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) were declared elected unopposed in two municipal councils.

In the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), the following NDPP candidates secured their seats without contest: Wabang Kichu from Lijaba Lijen Ward, Walunila from Penli Ward, Maongtula Longchar from Alempang Ward, Imtiyapang from Aongza Ward, and Imkongchuba A from Dilong Ward.

Simultaneously, in the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), the NDPP also dominated with five candidates winning uncontested: Kelhousenuo Khruomo from Highschool Ward, Avilie Rio from Bayavu Ward, Thejavizo Philip Solo from New Market Ward, Neibodzelie Solo from PWD Ward, and Ketousie Khamo from AG Ward.

Following the expiration of the withdrawal deadline today, June 18, elections for the Urban Local Bodies in Nagaland will be held on June 26.

At the Kohima Municipal Council Office, the formal presentation of Certificates of Election to the KMC candidates was conducted today. T Lanusenla Longkumer, NCS, Returning Officer, presided over the ceremony, which was attended by Anthony Ngullie, NCS, Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, serving as the Election Observer for Kohima Municipal Council.
