The Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board (NBOCWWB) recently organized a special registration camp alongside a health screening initiative aimed at supporting unregistered migrant workers. Held at the Smart City Hotel construction site from July 16 to 17, 2024, the event was a collaborative effort between the Department of Labour and the Medical Department.

Deputy CEO of NBOCWWB, Vikehieto Nagi, discussed the Ministry of Labour & Employment’s development of the eShram portal. This portal aims to establish a National Database of Unorganized Workers (NDUW), linked with Aadhaar, facilitating access to various government schemes. Nagi outlined the social security benefits available to registered workers through the Welfare Board, including tools grants, insurance cover under the Aam Admi Bima Yojana (AABY), medical assistance, children’s education allowances, and maternity benefits. Currently, the Welfare Board has successfully registered 6,661 workers across the state.

Dr Kevi from the Medical Department provided an orientation on vector-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue, and chikungunya. He stressed the importance of maintaining a clean environment to prevent these diseases and encouraged workers to visit the nearest government health centres for blood tests at the first sign of illness.

The program was chaired by Assistant Labour Commissioner of Kohima District, Neimenuo which saw a robust turnout. Neimenuo expressed gratitude to the participants, emphasizing the vulnerability of migrant workers and their limited access to healthcare services. She highlighted the Labour and Medical Departments’ efforts to organize the health screening camp, which provided free medical services.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS, inaugurated the camp, urging migrant workers to stay informed and register to avail the various schemes. He emphasized the importance of self-care and encouraged workers to utilize the free facilities provided at the camp.

The camp offered free services, including labour card registration, eShram registration, account opening services, and health screenings. Additionally, mosquito nets and medicines were distributed to all migrant workers by the Medical Department.
