The Western Sümi Hoho (WSH) and its frontal organizations on Friday expressed alarm at the death threat issued by NSCN/GPRN (Khango) to KKB Rulho over a tax-related dispute. The WSH stated in a press release that this reaction is unacceptable and puts the lives of the people at risk. It said that it cannot allow disagreements over taxation to escalate into violence and intimidation.

WSH further expressed concern at the reaction from NSCN/GPRN (Khango) following the Angami Youth Organisation’s (AYO) declaration of non-cooperation. Furthermore, WSH said that the NSCN/GPRN (Khango) directing all contractors working under the purview of Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) to “temporarily suspend operations, demobilize their personnel, and remove their equipment and machinery from other districts is an unnecessary escalation that will only lead to more harm and suffering for our people.”

This move, WSH said, has the potential to disrupt the fragile peace and undermine the progress made towards development and prosperity.

WSH urged the NSCN/GPRN (Khango) to immediately withdraw the death threat and seek a peaceful resolution to the tax dispute through dialogue and negotiation. It also called on AYO to engage in constructive dialogue to find a mutually beneficial solution.

“Let us work together to find peaceful solutions to our differences and avoid actions that may jeopardize the hard-earned peace in our state,” it said, adding that the WSH and its frontal organizations appeal to all parties to exercise restraint and prioritize the well-being of the Naga people.

“We must work towards a peaceful and prosperous future for all, free from violence, intimidation, and fear,” the WSH said.
