NWA officials with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio at his official residential office, Kohima, 26 August.

According to a press statement issued by NWA Joint Secretary, Kuzhovesa Soho, the NWA informed the Chief Minister of its plans to conduct wrestling training and coaching camps for non-participating wrestling tribes and communities. These camps, covering Naga style, national styles, and other international wrestling styles, are tentatively scheduled for September and October this year and will be implemented in phases. The initiative aims to provide a platform for young, potential wrestlers to integrate into the Naga wrestling community and encourage their participation in the upcoming International Hornbill Naga Wrestling Championship in December 2024, as well as the Open Naga Wrestling Championship, tentatively scheduled for late February 2025. The NWA also plans to organize a separate state-level Naga wrestling championship for non-participating communities after the Open Naga Wrestling Championship in 2025.

Additionally, the NWA shared its plans to elevate the 17th International Hornbill Naga Wrestling 2024 to a higher standard, in collaboration with the 25th edition of the Hornbill Festival 2024. The association intends to invite wrestlers from mainland India and abroad and proposes to hold the championship at Khuochiezie, depending on the feasibility. The NWA also discussed the tentative organization of the Asian Belt Wrestling Championship 2024 in November, to be hosted by the State Government of Nagaland.

Other topics of discussion included the construction of a state wrestling stadium and the NWA office.

The NWA expressed its gratitude to the Chief Minister for his attentive listening and positive response to their proposals. The association looks forward to his continued support, guidance, and assistance in advancing wrestling to new heights.

The Chief Minister, expressing his satisfaction with the proposals to expand wrestling to non-participating communities, assured his full support to the NWA in its future endeavors.

The NWA delegation was led by its President, Vivolie Kezo, and was accompanied by Minister for Power & Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye, and Advisor for CAWD & Taxes, Kudecho Khamo.
