Create enabling ecology to promote and preserve ancient wisdom of the Naga people
Lumami, March 17 (MTNews):The 5th convocation ceremony of Nagaland University was held at I. Ihoshe Kinimi Hall, Lumami on March 17 with Chief Rector of Nagaland University, Professor Jagdish Mukhi, Governor of Assam & Nagaland, as chief guest.
Delivering the convocation address, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi highlighted that Nagaland University was established in the year 1994 to fulfill the aspirations of the people of Nagaland in general and its youth in particular in the realm of higher education, both teaching and research. While adding that the convocation ceremony was an occasion to introspect and ponder over the utility of degrees and certificates for meeting the challenges of the outside world and for grabbing the existing opportunities for bettering lives.
The Governor asserted that, if knowledge acquired over a period of time makes one inclusive and democratic in thinking, then they have got the right education and are on the right path.
The Governor appealed the students “to become part and parcel of policy and decision making processes that can help in wiping out the tears from the eyes of old, infirm, deprived and marginalized,” for making the education imparted by the teachers complete and meaningful.
The Governor congratulated the people of Nagaland for protecting and preserving the traditional knowledge and value systems while underscoring that it is the responsibility of Nagaland University to create enabling ecology through relevant centers of knowledge to promote and preserve the ancient wisdom of the Naga people. He further congratulated Nagaland University, its teachers, officials and students for meeting the requirements of the academic calendar as per the UGC requirement despite the challenges of COVID-19 pandemic and other structural impediments.
He was also delighted to learn that the University is fully prepared and whole heartedly geared up for implementing the New Education Policy, 2020 from the forthcoming academic session, 2022-2023. He expressed hope that the New Education Policy, if implemented successfully, would bridge the gap between job seekers and job givers and would be able to create a pool of young minds empowered with the elements of innovation, creativity and desired skills to meet the national as well as the global standards.
A total of 111 candidates received Gold Medals in person while a total of 194 candidates received Degree Certificates in person.
Earlier, Professor Pardeshi Lal, Vice Chancellor, Nagaland University delivered the welcome speech and presented the university report while Dr. Abemo, Registrar, Nagaland University declared the convocation.
