Nagaland University celebrated its 31st Foundation Day and held a Welcome Program for the School of Engineering and Technology (SET) at its Kohima Campus on September 6, 2024. The event was led by Prof Lungsang Zeliang, with a warm welcome and address by Prof GT Thong, Pro-Vice Chancellor. Prof VK Vidyarthi, Dean of SET, highlighted the school’s journey since 2007 and provided guidance for future challenges.


The Chief Guest, Prof Jagadish K Patnaik, Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, emphasized the importance of unity and strengthening academic departments. He advocated for the digitalization of the examination system and encouraged students to excel in UPSC, NPSC, and other competitive exams, promising incentives from the university. Prof Patnaik also announced the launch of a new 4-year multidisciplinary undergraduate program in the upcoming academic session. Additionally, he discussed the proposal for the establishment of two new engineering departments and nine other departments, along with 20 new buildings under HEFA.

The Vice-Chancellor’s awards for 2024 were presented to outstanding individuals across all campuses, including Best Teacher, Best Research Scholar, Best Student, and Best Non-Teaching Staff. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Metsizolie Medoze, Deputy Registrar.

At the NU headquarters in Lumami, Prof M Indira Devi, Senior Professor in the Department of Chemistry, delivered the Foundation Day Speech. The event, chaired by Kahoshe Sumi, Deputy Registrar of GAD, included a welcome address by Prof CR Deb from the Department of Botany. Short speeches were given by Prof Bendang Ao, President of NUTA (L), and Lanuzulu from NUNTSA (L). Peter Ki, PRO, announced the winners of the NU Photography Contest 2024, and Dr I Tovishe Phucho from the Department of Chemistry offered the vote of thanks.

At the School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS) in Medziphema, Prof J Longkumer, Associate Dean of Students Welfare, delivered the Foundation Day Lecture. The event, chaired by Prof L Tongpang Longkumer from the Department of Agronomy, featured the distribution of certificates to winners of the Anti-Ragging Competition. The program concluded with a vote of thanks from the Vice-President of NUNTSA (SAS).
