On the evening of 21st September 2024, a joint raid on alcohol outlets was conducted by Mokokchung Police, IR, and 2nd NAP personnel in Mokokchung Town and other towns across the district. During the operation, eight individuals were arrested for selling and stocking illegal IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) of various brands. Accordingly, eight cases were registered against them under the NLTP Act, Mokokchung Police stated in a press release.

The total seized IMFL included 742 bottles of MC Rum, 240 cans of beer, 158 bottles of whiskey, and 58 bottles of vodka.

Mokokchung Police stated that similar raids would be conducted in the future to curb the illegal flow of IMFL into the district.

In a separate incident on 21st September at around 6:00 p.m., Mokokchung Police, while conducting routine checks near Impur Junction, Mokokchung, intercepted a Bolero Pickup bearing registration number AS03 CC 3775 and recovered a large quantity of illegal IMFL from the vehicle.

The seized IMFL included 57 cases of 375 ml (1,368 bottles) MC Rum and 20 cases of 500 ml (480 cans) Kingfisher Beer. The driver and the owner of the consignment, namely Yungiz Lomo (36 years) from Waoshu Village under Tuensang Police Station and Sanjib Tanti (29 years) from New Sonowal under Mariani Police Station, Assam, were arrested, and a criminal case has been registered under the NLTP Act at Mokokchung Police Station I for further investigation.
