The “Forest and Biodiversity Management in the Himalaya, Nagaland” Project (FBMP), co-financed by the Federal Republic of Germany through KfW (German Development Bank), is being implemented under Mokokchung Forest Division in Batch-1 villages, which include Alongkima, Khar, Mongchen, Dibuia, and Waromung.

The objectives of this project include the promotion of sustainable and effective management of forests and biodiversity in Nagaland, supporting improved connectivity and conservation of biodiversity, creating and enhancing livelihood opportunities for dependent communities, and establishing incentive mechanisms that reward communities for effectively protecting and maintaining their Community Conserved Areas (CCA).

A hands-on beekeeping training for L6 (Reduced Human-Elephant Conflict through Expanding Conservation Areas) villages was conducted on 21st September 2024 at Waromung Village, organized by FBMP, Mokokchung Division. The participants included members from the CCA, Village Council, and Nongnang SHG group.

The program was chaired by Lipokinla Pongen, FcOM. In the welcome note, Tali Ao, Convergence Expert, DMU Mokokchung, welcomed all the participants and thanked the resource person for his dedication despite his busy schedule. The participants were encouraged to attend sincerely, with an emphasis on the practical implementation of the training to ensure the sustainability of income-generating activities that can support their families and livelihoods. Tali Ao pointed out that study and listening alone are insufficient for these activities to become sustainable.

T Chubagangshi, Apiculturist (NBHM), a recent award winner for Best Beekeeper from the North East under the ST category by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (TRIFED) on the occasion of World Bee Day celebrations at Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh on 28th May 2023, was invited as the resource person for the technical session on beekeeping. He shared his expertise and provided practical insights, enhancing participants’ understanding of beekeeping techniques. He also emphasized the various challenges faced by the beneficiaries, which were identified and discussed during the session.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Nongnang SHG leader, who expressed gratitude to FBMP for coming to their village to address the challenges they were facing and for providing the training. The event ended with lunch.
