The Spearhead Motorsport Initiative (SMI) is commemorating its 10th anniversary with the high-octane launch of Throttle Thrust VI, a motorsport showdown held at Mangmetong village, Mokokchung, on November 1.
Temsuchuba Jamir, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) of Mokokchung, officially flagged off the 2-day competition, marking a decade of SMI’s dedication to advancing the motorsport scene in Nagaland.
In his opening remarks, Jamir emphasized that motorsport is not just about raw speed but is a true measure of skill, endurance, and precision. He applauded SMI’s long-standing efforts to unite drivers and cultivate a motorsport culture. He further acknowledged SMI’s positive influence in the community, highlighting their recent installation of flexible traffic poles in Mokokchung as an example of their commitment to public service.
The action revved up with Stage I, featuring a 3-kilometer tarmac sprint where 56 competitors from Meghalaya, Dimapur, Kohima, Wokha, and Mokokchung took on the clock in categories for Open Class, below 1300cc, and SUV divisions. On Saturday, Throttle Thrust VI shifts gears into Stage II next, with participants set to battle on a challenging dirt and gravel track. Final standings will be determined by cumulative times across both stages.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, SMI announced special awards, including a team prize for the most entries and an individual prize for the fastest times across both days, spotlighting the top driver of the event.
This year’s Throttle Thrust VI holds even greater stakes as the decisive final round of the North-East Championships, promising intense competition among regional talents. “Throttle Thrust VI is more than a race; it’s a festival for motorsport lovers, fostering camaraderie and pushing the boundaries of motorsport in Nagaland,” stated the organizers.
