The 15-U Satakha Area Sports and Cultural Association observed a Pre-Ahuna cum Cultural Competition on November 12, 2024, at the public ground in Satakha town. G Kaito Aye, Minister of Roads and Bridges, Government of Nagaland, served as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, G Kaito Aye emphasized that sports and athletes represent different aspects of society, but culture stands as an image and identity of the community. He urged the continued promotion of Satakha’s rich culture and identity. He stated that the Satakha Area Sports and Cultural Association provides a common platform for the people of Satakha, making it essential for every village to participate, as this event reflects unity in preserving and promoting cultural identity.

Aye highlighted that Satakha is also known for its rich history, having contributed to the Naga national movement and social and political leadership—attributes that continue to shape Naga society today. He emphasized that the Satakha constituency, comprising 36 villages and 41 polling stations, should come together, with everyone participating in social and economic development initiatives.
He questioned whether people in the constituency should prioritize helping the broader village community over individuals, stressing the importance of focusing on community development rather than personal interests. In a democratic setup, he noted, those elected bear a responsibility to the people and should embrace opportunities for collective participation and community development for the welfare of Satakha.
Aye also emphasized the importance of indigenous games and the broader prospects of sports, including indoor games, to inspire youth and enable them to compete at higher levels. He urged GBs, as custodians of the village, to take responsibility in both good and challenging times for the betterment of society.
He concluded by urging GBs to observe Ahuna with thanksgiving prayers and to receive blessings. He appealed to the public to take advantage of government schemes and assured his cooperation in supporting unemployed youth. He further urged the Sumi community to unite for progress, seek humility before God, and work toward societal transformation.
The significance of Ahuna was shared by Akukau Mughato Zhimo from Nunumi village, and a war dance was performed by Shoipu village. The inaugural program began with an invocation by Vinotoli Achumi, APW-UBC Satakha. Various Sumi cultural and indigenous games competitions were also held.
