The Oriental Theological College (OTC), in collaboration with the Nagaland Tool Room & Training Centre, conducted a five-day skill training program from November 12 to 16 at its Yangli campus. The program, aimed at fostering entrepreneurial skills and promoting sustainability, concluded with 112 participants gaining hands-on experience across multiple trades.

The event began with a welcome address by Dr Chemtingla Sangtam, Principal of OTC. Participants engaged in practical training across five trades: Banana Fibre Extraction & Handicrafts, Handmade Paper & Pulp Production, Waste Management (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), and House Wiring & Maintenance. Trainers included Thüküngolü Swuro, S Pitoka Achumi, Keriesekho Miasalhou, and Vesuto Rhakho.

Participants in Banana Fibre Extraction & Handicrafts learned to extract fibres from banana plants and craft beautiful handicrafts, with a focus on sustainability. Trainers demonstrated the process, encouraging resourceful use of natural materials.

The Handmade Paper & Pulp Production module involved creating paper from pulp, emphasizing eco-friendly practices and recycling. Trainees prepared unique handmade paper, showcasing their newfound skills and creativity.

In the Waste Management segment, participants explored innovative waste-reduction techniques, including converting kitchen waste and animal excrement into manure, crafting brooms from plastic waste, and producing bricks from polystyrene and glass. These activities underscored the importance of practical recycling methods.

The House Wiring & Maintenance session equipped trainees with essential electrical skills, including wiring installations and safety measures like earthing. Guided by experienced trainers, participants practiced basic techniques and improved their understanding of household electrical systems.

The program’s final day featured participants sharing their experiences and reflecting on their personal growth. The training not only provided valuable entrepreneurial skills but also encouraged creative and sustainable thinking. By equipping participants with practical knowledge, the initiative aims to empower them to improve their lives and contribute to a more eco-conscious world.
