The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nagaland State, has expressed shock and condemned the alleged behavior of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi towards Nagaland’s Rajya Sabha MP, S Phangnon Konyak. In a statement issued by its Media Department, the state BJP described the incident as an affront to the dignity of the MP and an insult to the people of Nagaland, whom she represents.

The BJP labeled the alleged actions as a violation of Parliamentary decorum and a threat to the respect and safety every daughter of the nation deserves. The party further criticized Gandhi’s behavior as unbecoming of an elected representative, asserting that it undermines the principles of non-violence and respect upheld by India’s democracy.

“It is also a stark indication of the animosity he and the Congress Party has towards the Hon’ble MPs of the BJP,” it alleged.

“This incident further underscores a disturbing example of the deep-seated disregard for the rights and dignity of women and representatives from the Northeast harboured by the Congress party and its leadership,” it added.

Expressing solidarity with MP Phangnon Konyak, the BJP Nagaland also extended its support to two BJP MPs who were reportedly injured during the incident. The party also demanded an immediate and unconditional apology from Rahul Gandhi and the Congress Party, and urged authorities to “take stringent action against such misconduct to ensure that the sanctity of our country’s highest democratic institutions is preserved so that no member, especially women, feels threatened or disrespected within its precincts.”

The BJP Nagaland State also called on citizens to condemn the alleged misconduct and to stand united against any intimidation or disrespect towards women and elected representatives.
