The District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting for Wokha was held on Friday, 10th January 2025, where the Board approved the celebration of the Banana Festival in the district as an annual event.

DC Wokha, Vineet Kumar IAS, who is also the Vice Chairman of DPDB Wokha, informed that the date for this year’s Banana Festival will be finalized during the next DPDB meeting, after receiving feedback from farmers and the Horticulture Department.

When queried about the status of banana plantations in Wokha district by MLA and Vice Chairman of DPDB Wokha, Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe, the Horticulture Officer for Wokha informed the House that approximately 863 hectares of land are currently under banana cultivation, with both commercial and local varieties. He further stated that bananas are grown year-round across all three regions (upper, lower, and middle) of Wokha district.

Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe described the DPDB platform as a “Mini Assembly” and emphasized the importance of participation from every member. He reminded the attendees that everyone should share their thoughts and opinions for the betterment of the district.

DC Wokha reminded the government departments in Wokha district to provide the land status of their respective offices and obtain land pattas by 31st January 2025 for those without any litigation.

During the meeting, the House recommended the proposal to create a health sub-centre at Nitsuyan village.

OC Fire, Francis Singsit, highlighted fire safety preparedness.

The Land Resources and Fisheries Departments were entrusted with presenting their departmental activities at the next DPDB meeting. The meeting concluded with a note of thanks from the chair.

Following the DPDB meeting, another meeting was convened by ADC Wokha regarding the distribution of work for the successful celebration of Republic Day 2025. In this regard, ADC Wokha informed that a mass social work will be conducted on 25th January 2025 and sought the cooperation of the HODs to ensure the celebration of Republic Day goes smoothly.
