Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has called for a united response from the public and tribal bodies to oppose the re-imposition of the Protected Area Regime (PAR) in Nagaland. He highlighted that the state cabinet had recently decided to appeal for a review of the decision, emphasizing that Nagaland is currently in a peaceful state. The Chief Minister also mentioned that he had raised the issue at a DoNER meeting. He contended that Nagaland’s record of having the lowest crime rate, being the safest state for women, and attracting lakhs of tourists could be adversely affected by the decision.

The Union Home Ministry had reimposed the Protected Area Regime (PAR) in Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram in December 2024, citing “growing security concerns arising from the influx of people from neighboring countries.” The PAR requires foreigners visiting these states to obtain prior permission and special permits from the government.

The PAR had been relaxed in 2010 for a year in the three states bordering Myanmar, with the duration of the order extended for five years. The latest order, issued on December 16, 2022, was valid until December 2027.

CM Rio dismisses health rumors, reassures public
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio also addressed rumors circulating on social media about his health, claiming that he was suffering from an incurable illness. In today’s society, where opinions and rumors spread quickly through mobile phones, such misinformation can cause undue concern, he said.

Reassuring the public, Rio clarified that the rumors were unfounded. “By the grace of God and with the prayers of the people, I am in good health and continuing to fulfill my duties,” he stated.
