The monthly District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) meeting of Wokha was held on February 11, 2025, at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Wokha.

Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Vineet Kumar (IAS), chaired the meeting, which was attended by Chairman DPDB Wokha, Mhonbemo Humtsoe, and Advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan. Reviewing the minutes of the last meeting, the Deputy Commissioner once again reminded departments that are yet to submit the status report of the land occupied by their respective offices to do so before the end of February 2025.

Key discussions and approvals:

Wokha-Bokajan Road Status: The Deputy Commissioner informed that the road has remained non-operational for the past two years. Executive Engineer (EE), R&B, Baghty, stated that the road has been severely cut off at two locations, and estimates and proposals for restoration have already been submitted to the higher authorities for sanction. After deliberation, the board requested the concerned department to follow up to ensure that the sanction is approved and the road is restored.

Tuberculosis (TB) Elimination Campaign: District TB Officer, Wokha, highlighted various campaign activities under the 100-day TB campaign aimed at accelerating TB case detection, reducing mortality, and preventing new cases through a stratified approach in the district.

River Rafting & Kayaking/Canoeing Sports and Youth Advisory Council (YAC) Implementation: The District Youth Resource & Sports Officer (DYRO) presented a proposal for introducing river rafting and kayaking/canoeing sports in Doyang and the implementation of YAC in Wokha district. The Deputy Commissioner requested the DYRO to prepare a draft proposal and modalities and present it at the next DPDB meeting for approval.
Draft Vision Document on Banana: While presenting the draft vision document on Banana, the Deputy Commissioner stated that copies had already been circulated. He requested all members to provide suggestions and inputs before finalization.

Folk Festival 2028: Thungdemo Kyong, President of Team Metamorphosis, presented details about the upcoming Folk Festival, scheduled to be held from February 26 to 28, 2028, at Doyang. He informed the board that the event is supported by the Government of Nagaland in collaboration with the Department of Tourism. Commenting on this, the Deputy Commissioner stated that the festival is being organized to promote eco-tourism in the district and requested all departments to extend their support for the successful conduct of the event.

Departmental Presentations: The Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources and the Department of Power presented PowerPoint reports. In response to the District Fisheries Officer’s (DFO) presentation, Mhathung Yanthan asked the DFO to prepare a proposal for the restoration of the Ice Plant located at Doyang, which has remained non-operational since its installation in 2012. Yanthan also urged the Executive Engineer (EE), Power, to ensure an uninterrupted power supply during the ongoing HSLC examinations for the welfare of the student community.
