The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Kobulong Block, Mokokchung, conducted a demonstration program on “Organic Production of Ginger (Nadia)” at Yimchalu village on April 14, with Temjeninla, Assistant Technology Manager, ATMA, as the resource person.

The resource person began by introducing the various varieties of ginger and explained that ginger is one of the oldest spices, known for its distinct flavor and pungency.

Highlighting the high-yielding varieties of ginger, such as Nadia, which is best suited for the North Eastern states, she emphasized the importance of selecting healthy, disease-free rhizomes and cutting the ginger rhizomes into reasonably smaller sizes, ensuring the nodes are taken care of.

She also demonstrated and explained in detail the field preparation using minimum tillage, as well as bed preparation with proper spacing. Furthermore, she discussed the use of organic fertilizers like well-rotted manure or compost, the application of natural pest control methods such as companion planting or botanical extracts, and the importance of rotating ginger with other crops to prevent soil exhaustion.

Altogether, 12 farmers, along with ATMA staff, attended the demonstration program.
