The Department of History, Jubilee Memorial College, Mokokchung organized a one-day workshop on account of World Heritage Day under the theme “Heritage under threat from disasters and conflicts” on April 17, 2025, focusing on the preservation of traditional bamboo handicrafts.


The Major students from the History department along with three faculty members attended the workshop at Er. Akangmeren Memorial Playground, Mangmetong Village, a site renowned for its natural beauty and cultural relevance.


Students actively participated in a hands-on workshop led by Noksangyupang and three skilled village members of the Arju centre Mangmetong. Under their guidance, the students learned various traditional techniques, including the making of bamboo baskets (locally known as Molok) and woven bamboo walling or bamboo wattle (Jara).


The expert craftsmen demonstrated traditional crafting methods, introduced the types of bamboo used, showcased essential tools, and provided historical context, promoting a spirit of unity among participants from different age groups and backgrounds.
