The visit of AK Mishra, the Centre’s interlocutor for the Naga Peace Talks, has once again brought to light what the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) describes as a series of broken promises by the Government of India to the Naga people.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the NPCC recalled that two major agreements had already been signed with the Government of India: the Framework Agreement with the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) nearly a decade ago, and the Agreed Position with the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPGs) eight years ago. Yet, despite the passage of time, the Centre continues to falter on its commitments.
“The Government of India continues to falter in implementing these commitments,” the NPCC stated.
Calling it a “fervent appeal,” the NPCC urged AK Mishra to ensure that the agreements are implemented “immediately and sincerely.” The party emphasized that the aspirations of the Naga people must be honored and fulfilled without further delay.
“The long-awaited Final Political Settlement must be delivered in honour of the aspirations of the Naga people,” the NPCC said.
