Woman molested after boarding auto from 4th Mile; rescued by bystanders, police probe underway
The Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH) has expressed its “deepest outrage and unequivocal condemnation” over an incident of molestation and assault involving a Chakhesang woman in Dimapur on June 15, 2025.
According to a press statement issued by the WCH, “The victim, who had arrived from Pune by flight around 1:00 PM, boarded an auto-rickshaw at 4th Mile intending to reach the Dimapur Taxi Stand. Shockingly, the driver deviated from the designated route and headed toward Niuland Road.”
During the journey, “the accompanying male occupants began molesting her despite her repeated protests.” The WCH stated that when her pleas for help were ignored by the driver, “she jumped from the moving vehicle to escape further assault and sustained serious injuries in the process.”
Fortunately, “alert and compassionate passers-by rushed to her aid, apprehended the perpetrators, and secured the auto-rickshaw,” the WCH noted, adding that they are “deeply grateful” to those individuals. The victim is currently undergoing treatment at CIHSR Hospital, and an FIR has been filed at the Women Police Station in Dimapur.
Calling the incident “not just a criminal act but a grave violation of human dignity and women’s safety,” the WCH demanded that police and law enforcement agencies investigate the matter with urgency and ensure the “strictest punishment under the law.”
“The judicial process must be expedited so justice is not delayed, and a clear message is sent — such heinous crimes will not be tolerated,” the WCH stated. It further added that it would “monitor the progress of this case closely” and expects regular updates from the investigating authorities.
The Hoho also stressed that “the dignity and safety of our women are non-negotiable,” and issued a stern message to potential offenders: “Let this serve as a stern warning to all anti-social elements: such acts of depravity will face the full force of the law, without leniency or delay.”
The WCH ended its statement by urging law enforcement agencies to uphold the sanctity of justice and demonstrate zero tolerance toward violence against women.
