St. Edmund Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, in partnership with Can Youth, organized an impactful one-day awareness program on June 27, 2025, at the school campus, addressing critical issues affecting young people—tobacco use prevention, menstrual hygiene, anti-bullying, and mental health.
The awareness program featured three insightful sessions designed to empower students. The first session, led by Dr N Moa Jamir, District Nodal Officer, Dimapur, and Imkumla Aier, Psychologist, NTCP Dimapur, shed light on the harmful effects of tobacco and the importance of early prevention. The program was coordinated by Zhove Lohe, Secretary & Director of Can Youth, and assisted by BSW interns from Tetso College, Chümoukedima.
Jenpu Rhakho Rongmei, Founder and Chief Functionary of Can Youth, facilitated a compelling session on combating bullying and prioritizing mental well-being. He emphasized that “Silence kills a person’s growth,” encouraging students to voice their thoughts and feelings freely. He also proposed the establishment of a “Helping Buddy Box” and a “Young Support Group” within the school, offering a secure space for students to share concerns and suggestions.
The final session was conducted by Nuyielu Nyekha, Program Manager at Can Youth, who highlighted the significance of menstrual hygiene. She recommended that the school provide sanitary pads to ensure students’ health and comfort, along with awareness posters in classrooms.
The program concluded with engaging activities and two powerful pledges led by the school captains. Students committed to abstaining from tobacco and living a tobacco-free life, as well as to standing united against bullying, treating everyone with kindness and respect, and being the positive change they wish to see.
