The Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), in consultation with all concerned departments and stakeholders, has issued a set of directives aimed at enhancing public safety, reducing traffic congestion, and regulating public and private transport services within the town’s jurisdiction.
According to a notification issued by Atsungba Walling, ADC and Chief Executive Officer of MMC, the new directives will come into effect from July 1, 2025, and cover two major areas: the shifting of interstate and district-level transport services, and the imposition of parking fees in designated zones.

Transport services shifted to ISBT Khensa
All interstate and district level transport services shall henceforth operate exclusively from the Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) located at Khensa, Mokokchung, the notification stated. This includes “all Government and Private Bus Services, Inter District Sumo (Taxi) services operating from MMC jurisdiction.”
However, “all private bus/taxi services departing to various villages/town under Mokokchung District shall henceforth operate from MMC building basement.” Services departing “before 6.00 am from the town” have been temporarily exempted from this change.
To ensure access to the ISBT, the MMC stated that “shuttle bus services will be arranged from the main town to ISBT as per the need/requirement.”
Parking fees at specific zones
To manage growing vehicular traffic and improve public parking efficiency, MMC will impose parking fees of ¹ 10 per vehicle (both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, government and private) per hour at specific locations within the town. The council advised all “vehicle owner, drivers and public” to cooperate for the “smooth transition of traffic and vehicular movements.”
The designated fee-collection zones are:
· Tongdentsuyong Ward (Transformer) to Bank of Baroda
· Bank of Baroda to Rotary Junction
· Rotary Junction to Marcofed Petrol Pump (Mongsenbai Ward)
· Sewak Gate area
· Rotary Junction to Milak Bridge (Model Hr Sec School Junction)
· MMC office area to Old Town Hall Market area
