Queen Mary Higher Secondary School (QMHSS) emerged as the double title winners of the inaugural Inter High School & Higher Secondary School Basketball Tournament 2025, claiming both the boys’ and girls’ championship trophies. The tournament, organized by the Basketball Association Mokokchung District (BAMD), concluded on Saturday at the BAMD Basketball Court, Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung.

A total of 13 teams representing nine schools from across the district, including three schools from outside Mokokchung town, participated in the tournament.
In the boys’ final, QMHSS outplayed Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School (MGHSS) 59–29. The game remained tightly contested through the first half, with QMHSS leading 10–7 in the first quarter and 21–16 at halftime. However, QMHSS broke away in the second half, outscoring MGHSS 18–10 in the third quarter and sealing the game with a commanding 20–3 fourth quarter run. Odao Amri led the charge with an impressive 24 points.
In the semifinals, QMHSS cruised past Eden Academy 69–37, while MGHSS edged out CMHSS Impur 34–32.
In the girls’ final, QMHSS defeated Eden Academy with a convincing 15–05 score line, securing the title and ensuring a clean sweep in both divisions.
The final match was officiated by a refereeing crew led by Crew Chief Merenlong, assisted by umpires Temsutoshi and Tsungsanger.
Both champion teams received running trophies, cash prizes, and certificates. Runners-up were also awarded cash prizes and certificates, while Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Most Promising Player (MPP) awardees were honoured with individual trophies and certificates.
As part of its basketball revival efforts in the district, BAMD also selected 24 boys and 14 girls for a coaching and scouting programme, based on performances in the tournament. The initiative aims to nurture young talent under expert mentorship and strengthen grassroots basketball in the district with a focus on the future.
