The Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH) has extended heartfelt congratulations and “profound admiration” to Sano Vamuzo for being conferred the Baptist World Alliance (BWA) Quinquennial Human Rights Award for Lifetime Achievement. The award was presented during the 23rd Baptist World Congress held in Brisbane, Australia, from July 7–12, 2025, in recognition of her outstanding global contributions in advancing human rights, social justice, and peace.

In a press statement issued by WCH Press Secretary Lhikhro Kreo, the Hoho hailed Vamuzo as a “visionary leader” whose decades of courageous advocacy and selfless service have created “an indelible legacy that continues to illuminate the path for future generations.”
Sano Vamuzo, a Padma Shri awardee in 2024, is also known for her pivotal role as a founding member of the Naga Mothers’ Association and as the first Chairperson of the Nagaland State Commission for Women. WCH praised her efforts in “redefining women’s empowerment, forging pathways for conflict resolution, and constructing enduring bridges of peace that extend far beyond the Naga community.”
The Hoho said it “celebrates this momentous achievement with immense pride and gratitude” and offered prayers for her “continued strength and grace” in her mission ahead.
Meanwhile, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) Central Headquarters, Kohima, also issued a statement congratulating Smt. Sano Vamuzo, calling the award a “fitting tribute to a remarkable woman” who has devoted her life to championing “the rights, dignity, and empowerment of women and the marginalized.”
The NPF acknowledged her pioneering place in Naga history as the first Chairperson of the NSCW when it was instituted in 2007, and described her as a “towering figure in advocating for women’s representation and leadership not only in the state but also at the national and international levels.”
“It is worth noting that in 2024, she was also conferred the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian awards, in recognition of her distinguished service in the field of Social Work,” the party added.
Calling it a proud moment not just for the NSCW but for “every Naga woman and the entire Naga community,” the NPF noted that this honour reflects the “impact of her tireless efforts and vision.”
The party concluded by joining well-wishers around the world in celebrating her milestone and offered prayers for her “good health, renewed strength, and continued success in all her future endeavours.”
