The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, has issued a weather advisory for the period from July 16 to 23, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across all districts of Nagaland.

In an update issued on Wednesday, the NSDMA informed that districts including Mon, Tseminyu, Niuland, Dimapur, and Kohima are likely to experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms between July 16 and 21. The remaining districts will witness light to moderate rainfall, which may intensify as the days progress.

With the forecast of high precipitation, the NSDMA cautioned that lowland and foothill areas — including Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit, and Tuli — are particularly vulnerable to waterlogging and flash floods.

To mitigate risks during this period, the Authority advised residents of low-lying areas to take the following precautionary measures:

· Secure important documents and valuables in waterproof lockers.
· Evacuate flood-prone areas if directed by local authorities.
· Remain alert for any potential gas leaks.
· Avoid consuming food that may have come into contact with floodwaters.
· Refrain from wading or driving through flooded areas.
· Unplug and elevate electrical appliances to prevent damage.
· Drink only boiled or properly chlorinated water.
· Stay vigilant around open drains and flood channels.

The NSDMA urged the public to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary risks during the monsoon period. It also requested all District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) and relevant line departments to stay on high alert to safeguard lives and property.

For any emergency, citizens are advised to contact the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) at the toll-free number 1070.
