The Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs) has lashed out at the Rising People’s Party (RPP) over its recent statement on the Indo-Naga political issue, calling it “very disoriented” and “reckless,” and accusing the party of failing to understand the “nuances of the issues at hand.”
In a strongly worded press release issued by its Media Cell, the WC, NNPGs said the RPP’s statement “reveals a lack of maturity and coherence, showcasing an unorganized group that struggles to understand the complexities of the current Indo-Naga political discourse.” It added that “their inability to grasp the nuances of the issues at hand reflects poorly on their capacity to engage meaningfully.”
While acknowledging that “many educated sons and daughters of Naga National Workers initially admired RPP’s programs,” the statement said that “engaging recklessly with such a sensitive topic, which had cost countless lives in the past, is unwise. Respecting the past is crucial for the living.”
The WC criticized RPP’s role in the state, saying the party “has been notably ineffective, as they have been unable to nominate even a single suitable candidate for any State General Elections.”
Instead of being constructive, the group said, “their current role appears to be more obstructive than constructive, serving as a hindrance to the developmental initiatives within the state.”
Raising questions about RPP’s credibility, the WC accused the party of “undermining Naga history, identity, and political aspirations.” It said that “the disruption of the ongoing Indo-Naga peace deal with the Government of India through negative commentary disseminated in the media under the auspices of an Indian political party is unacceptable.”

“Such propositions, whether positive or negative, may only be sanctioned when articulated by a loyal citizen. However, when these statements originate from a registered political party within the state, they cannot be tolerated,” the statement read.
Asserting that the RPP has no standing to intervene in the Indo-Naga negotiations, the WC questioned, “What do the RPP want the Government of India to do? Do the RPP know the Ground Reality?”
It further slammed the party for its comments on the former interlocutor R.N. Ravi, calling their views “fundamentally misguided and lacking credibility.” Referring to RPP’s criticism of the “Agreed Position,” the WC said the assertion was “complete ignorance, baseless and misleading.”
The WC also denounced RPP’s dismissal of the recent visit by AK Mishra, the current interlocutor for the Naga talks, as a “waste of public resources.” The committee reminded the RPP that “as a new Indian political party,” it should “demonstrate a clear understanding of the current Indo-Naga political situation,” and not act “as a blogger on social media…..former members of ‘ACAUT’ Nagaland.”
On the ‘Agreed Position’ signed on November 17, 2017, the WC emphasized that the agreement was not limited to the Nagas of Nagaland. “It is concerning that the RPP lacks understanding of this and the critical ‘Status Paper,’” the committee stated. It said the Status Paper was “crafted with extensive effort, resources, and prayer support,” and that “every page reflects careful negotiation between the GOI and NNPGs, honouring Naga history and identity, and providing political and administrative recognition for Nagas across Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam.”
“The RPP failed to represent the complexities and realities surrounding the ‘Agreed Position’ signed between the Nagas and the GOI,” the statement continued.
“Anyone claiming that the Agreed Position is only for the Nagas of Nagaland shows a traitorous mindset,” it said, further questioning “whether there are individuals, organizations, or entities influencing RPP’s statements behind the scenes.”
The statement added: “Time will reveal the truth!”
