Basix Krishi Samruddhi Limited (BKSL), a national-level organization working for agri-based livelihood promotion, conducted a training program on August 16 and 18, 2025, at L. Hotovi Village under Dimapur district and Pishikhu Village under Niuland district, Nagaland. The training focused on “Modern Technologies of Horticulture.”
The program was supported by the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Dimapur, Nagaland, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India. BKSL and CIH have been putting efforts to strengthen overall farming skills by promoting Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), sustainable farming, value addition at the local level, and exploring alternative markets for better price realization.
In the training program, 50 farmers from each village participated with an action plan to implement their new learning in the field. This training is expected to help farmers achieve better productivity, secure fairer prices, and contribute towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
Resource persons included Sam Taro from the Spice Board of India, Dimapur Branch, who shared about the different benefits of availing government schemes for farmers’ welfare, horticulture techniques, and good agricultural practices. He emphasized the importance of organic farming and healthy food habits, encouraging farmers to cultivate crops naturally and avoid harmful pesticides or chemicals.
Ariba Anar, State Coordinator, North East Region Agri-Commodity E-Connect, Nagaland, who highlighted various market linkages available for farmers to sell their produce in both local and national markets. He stressed the need to scale up production to meet market demand and encouraged the adoption of modern horticulture practices such as cultivating Pink Guava, Bay Leaves, and oil seeds, which are suitable for the region.
The two-day training witnessed enthusiastic participation, with strong support from the village authorities and the presence of elderly men and women from the community.
