The All-Nagaland Pre-Service Teacher’s Association (ANPSTA) has submitted a representation to the Principal Director, School Education (DoSE), Kohima, pressing for urgent action on several issues concerning teacher recruitment in the state.

In its memorandum, ANPSTA stated, “All Nagaland Pre-Service Teacher’s Association (ANPSTA) demands that the vacancies of 1168 Primary Teacher post to be immediately send for requisition within two weeks and as per the cabinet decision OM No. CAB-2/2013(PT) for recruitment of Group-C post through NSSB.”

Highlighting the long delay in open recruitment, the association further demanded, “Given the unprecedented delay of over 10 years in conducting open recruitment, we demand an age relaxation of 10 years for eligible candidates, enabling them to participate in the recruitment process.”

On eligibility, ANPSTA cited Supreme Court directives of August 2023, stating that in the event of Primary Teacher recruitment, “it should be solely reserve for D.El.Ed (Diploma in Elementary Education)/PSTE trainees and not M.Ed, B.Ed, ECCE or Montessori trainees.”

The association also insisted that “the selection process must be solely merit-based, devoid of any reservations or quotas that may compromise the quality of education. This is essential to ensure that the most deserving and qualified candidates are appointed to these positions and also give quality education to the students.”

Calling for clarity in guidelines, ANPSTA asserted that “Clear Eligibility criteria and qualifications should be notice. Essential Qualification should D.El.Ed. degree holder from a govt. recognized institution.”

The association urged the Department of School Education to act immediately, cautioning that “any deviation from these requirements, the department will hold accountable from any action and unforeseen consequences to be done by the association.”
