The Confederation of All Nagaland State Services Employees Association (CANSSEA) staged a dharna in Kohima on Tuesday, demanding the restoration of the old pension system (OPS), implementation of the 8th Pay Commission, induction of IAS officers through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC), and repeal of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) Act.

The protest, held at the CANSSEA office, was in compliance with the call of the All-India State Government Employees Federation and continues a series of agitations, including a strike held on July 9, 2025.
Members warned that the movement may persist until their demands are met.
Addressing the media, CANSSEA president Zubemo Lotha Tsanglao emphasized the importance of merit-based IAS induction through NPSC and highlighted that some states have reverted to OPS, but central intervention is necessary for the Northeast. He also urged the government to honor its assurances regarding employee welfare.
He said the association hopes for a positive outcome, stressing that meritocracy is central to the NPSC and NSSB, and urged the government to stand by its assurances.
Avizo Nienu, president of the NPS Forum, warned that continuation of the National Pension System (NPS) could drag lakhs of people into the market raising serious concerns over the financial security of government employees. He appealed for urgent action to restore OPS and address employee grievances.
CANSSEA has submitted a representation to the state chief secretary, selecting five demands out of 11 raised by the central federation as most pertinent to Nagaland.
