Jubilee Memorial College came alive on September 26, 2025, with “A Cultural Odyssey,” a vibrant celebration of heritage, creativity, and community. The programme began with a formal opening session featuring prayers, addresses, and a special dance performance, all presented with warmth and tradition.
A highlight of the event was the exhortation by Wapangnaro Pongen, MMC Councillor, who offered a stirring reflection on cultural identity. She spoke of the importance of rediscovering our roots, honoring ancestral wisdom, and preserving the values that shape the community. While acknowledging the beauty of global cultures, she reminded the audience to remain grounded in their own through gestures of respect, traditional practices, and the quiet strength of Ao Naga customs.
She emphasized, “Culture is the heart of our identity and must be preserved, not as a cage but as a grounding force.” Wapangnaro Pongen cautioned that forgetting the etiquette and manners passed down from forefathers risks losing the threads that define identity. She added, “These customs are not mere formalities, they carry deep weight, offering us a profound sense of belonging. They remind us of the distinctions among clans and strengthen our allegiance to family, clan, kinship, and the wider community.”
The second session showcased the creativity and energy of students through on-stage competitions such as Ethnic Fusion and Ethnic Dance. Off-stage events included Ethnic Cooking, Rice Winnowing and Pounding Challenge, Dao Strike Relay, Bamboo Splash Relay, and the lively Hamok Eating Contest.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Imli Pongener, Assistant Cultural Secretary, celebrating the successful day of heritage, talent, and community spirit.
