On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, Nagaland University honored its safai mitras for their year-round contributions to cleanliness during a Swachh Bharat Diwas program at the Conference Hall of the Administrative Complex.

The event was graced by Prof MK Sinha, Senior Professor and VC In-charge, as Chief Guest. Peter Ki, PRO of Nagaland University, presided over the program, while Dr Likhase Sangtam, Chairperson of the Swachhata Hi Seva Committee, delivered the welcome address. Dr Sangtam highlighted the committee’s activities from September 17 to October 1, including pledge-taking, inauguration of the Cleanliness Target Unit (CTU), plastic collection drives, departmental cleanliness initiatives, rallies, Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath Shramdaan, and health screening of safai mitras.

A short video showcased these initiatives, reflecting the university’s commitment to cleanliness. Mannon Konyak from the Department of Economics added a cultural touch with a Hindi song rendition.

Prof Sinha presented personal protection equipment (PPE) kits to the safai mitras as a token of appreciation. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Lobeno Mozhui, member of the Swachhata Committee.

Student ambassadors supporting the campaign were also recognized, including Deuri (Mr Fresher 2025), Methasunu Luho (Miss Fresher 2025), and Hüralü (Miss Fresher 2024).
