The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a four-day weather advisory from 8th to 11th October, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall across the state.

According to the advisory, “Nagaland will witness localized thunderstorm and lightning with moderate rain to light rain at most places till the 11th October, 2025.” However, the districts of Kiphire, Kohima, Mokokchung, Peren, and Tuensang are expected to face “heavy rain accompanied by localized thunderstorm and lightning on the 9th and 10th of October.”

Lowland and foothill districts, including Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit, and Tuli, are “vulnerable to inundated waterlogging and flash floods,” while the hilly regions face risks of landslides due to “high precipitation in the hill sector.”

NSDMA has urged residents to take precautions:
“Keep valuable documents and items in safe locker to prevent loss and damage.”
“Evacuate low lying areas if advised by authorities.”
“Avoid entering flood waters or driving through flooded areas.”
“Disconnect and place electrical appliances off ground level.”
“Boil water before drinking or use chlorinated water.”
“Be alert to any open drain holes or flood channels.”
For landslide-prone areas, authorities advise:
“Be alert during heavy rainfall and continuous damp weather.”
“Stay out of the path of a landslide or debris flow.”
“Listen for any unusual sound that might indicate moving debris, trees cracking or rolling boulders (large stones).”
“Be alert when there is a sudden increase in volume of water in streams and a marked transformation from clear to muddy water.”

The NSDMA also urged “all the District Disaster Management Authorities and other line departments to remain on high alert to safeguard lives and property during the monsoon season.”

For emergencies, contact the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) at 1070, 112, or 0370-2291120/0370-2291122.

The advisory was issued and signed by Sentiwapang Aier, Additional Secretary to the Government of Nagaland.
