The Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA), under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority, celebrated Children’s Day on 14 November 2025 at the Care and Support Children’s Home in Chungtia Village. The programme began with an address by Pl. Molodongba, who spoke on the significance of Children’s Day and its relevance in promoting the rights and welfare of children.

Julian Sitlhou, Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary of MDLSA, highlighted key provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015. She explained the legal framework applicable to children in need of care and protection and children in conflict with law. Emphasising the vital role of Child Care Institutions, she noted that these facilities play an important part in rehabilitation, education and reintegration. She urged staff to treat children with empathy, patience and respect, adding that friendly and trust-based interactions help children feel secure enough to share their concerns, needs and aspirations. She stated that a warm and approachable caregiver becomes the child’s first pillar of strength.
Sitlhou also briefed participants on the ASHA scheme, which refers to Awareness, Support, Help and Action, and the Standard Operating Procedure titled Towards Eliminating Child Marriage, 2025. She said early marriage disrupts education and increases health risks, including maternal mortality and infant complications. She encouraged staff and the community to remain vigilant and intervene decisively to protect girls from early marriage.
The programme concluded with a special song performed by the children, followed by a mass prayer.
