The Pochury Hoho held a special consultative meeting on 18 November 2025 at Meluri, attended by its executive members along with village council chairmen and VDB secretaries of the Pochury community. The meeting focused on the official use of surnames and titles within the tribe, an issue that the Hoho said required urgent attention to safeguard the collective identity of the Pochury people.
During the discussions, the house noted that some individuals in different villages had begun using surnames and titles associated with other tribes or communities, often unknowingly. After detailed deliberation, the gathering unanimously resolved that only bonafide Pochury surnames and titles should be used in all official records and documents. The Hoho said this decision was essential to ensure that Pochury citizens continue to enjoy the rights and privileges due to them as members of the tribe.
The meeting identified multiple surnames and titles currently in use that do not belong to the Pochury community. These included Keor, Tsunhenru, Chululu, Thongru, Khatebo, Jidoji, Kapfo, Keory, Lasuh, Kenye, Thuezore, Kuchalea, Thuer, Thsankhuru, Shonglu, Yanphar, Mizu, Suvu, Yepthomi, Keoru, Lohe, Tshankhurthuer, Jonpfulea and Kewuru. The house resolved that individuals using such nomenclature must update their records to reflect proper Pochury surnames.
“This act was initiated in order to safeguard, protect and promote the identity of Pochury Tribe and to enable the Pochury citizens for rights and privileges as a bonafide Pochury,” the Hoho said.
