Imposes total ban on alcohol, drugs, extortion, and underage lodging
The NSCN/GPRN, Angami Region, has announced a strict prohibition on the sale of alcohol, illegal drugs, extortion and the accommodation of underage individuals in entertainment and hospitality establishments across Kohima district. The directive, issued through a press release on 24 November, follows what it described as growing concerns related to illegal activities and moral decline.
According to the release, the Angami Region NSCN/GPRN authority have conducted a detailed assessment and subsequently imposed an immediate and total ban on the sale and supply of alcohol in all forms. It stated that the “possession, sale, and use of illegal drugs and prohibited narcotic substances” is now completely banned within the district.
The directive further prohibits hotels, lodges, guest houses, night discos and bars from accommodating underage individuals under any circumstances.
The press release also warned that “any individual or group involved in extorting money, imposing taxes on businessmen or individuals by using and defaming the name of NSCN/GPRN” will face strict action in accordance with Government Azha.
All hotels, restaurants, night establishments and business operators have been instructed to adhere to the new directives. It cautioned that any violation of the order would invite serious and uncompromising action “as per the Government Azha and internal regulations.”
The directive, signed by caretaker CAO Theja Kire, stated that the measure is aimed at ensuring public safety, moral discipline, and the protection of young people.
