Model Christian College, Kohima, in collaboration with the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima, organized a Faculty and Staff Training on Psychological First Aid, Identification of Warning Signs, Response to Self-Harm, and Referral Mechanisms. The training aimed to equip faculty and staff with essential knowledge and skills to identify mental health concerns and provide appropriate support and referrals.

The training focused on enhancing awareness of mental health issues among faculty and staff, introducing the concept and application of Psychological First Aid, identifying early warning signs of mental distress and self-harm, and familiarizing participants with response strategies and referral mechanisms.

The programme was moderated by Asenla Jamir, Nodal Officer. The first session, “Psychological First Aid,” was conducted by Kethozeno Mere, Psychiatric Nurse, DMHP, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, emphasizing early identification of mental health concerns and providing immediate emotional support.

The second session, “Navigating Mental Health & Common Mental Disorders and Pathways to Care,” led by Veronica Nriame, Psychiatric Social Worker, DMHP, from 10:45 AM to 11:45 AM, highlighted common mental disorders and proper referral procedures.

The training concluded with a summarization and interaction session from 11:45 AM to 12:30 PM. Participants found the programme informative and beneficial, enhancing their capacity to respond effectively to mental health concerns within the college community.
