District Planning and Development Boards in Mokokchung and Longleng on Monday reviewed preparations for the upcoming 77th Republic Day celebrations while also deliberating on district-specific development initiatives, including urban sanitation measures and plans to mark a major town milestone.

The Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board meeting was held on January 19, 2026, at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, Atsungba Walling. The meeting began with an invocation prayer by the Principal of Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, and included a review of the previous meeting minutes and action taken reports.
A major focus of the meeting was finalising departmental work distribution for the Republic Day celebrations to ensure smooth coordination. The board also announced a Cleanest Ward competition across the four urban local bodies in the district, namely Mokokchung Municipal Council, Changtongya, Tuli and Mangkolemba. Scheduled for March 2026, the initiative will offer cash prizes to the top three wards under Mokokchung Municipal Council and the top two wards in each of the other three towns, with the aim of promoting sanitation and community participation.
Meanwhile, the Longleng District Planning and Development Board met the same day at the DPDB Hall, Longleng, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner W. Manpai Phom, NCS. After introducing new members and reviewing earlier decisions, the board discussed a proposal submitted by the Phom People Council to celebrate the 75th Platinum Jubilee of Longleng town in November 2026. The board agreed to constitute committees to undertake preliminary preparations.
The Longleng DPDB also reviewed Republic Day arrangements, finalised departmental responsibilities and decided to conduct a mass social work on January 24, 2026. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by the chair.
