The National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland has strongly condemned the recent assault and public humiliation of a Christian Pastor in Odisha, stating that the incident has caused “deep anguish and concern among citizens, particularly the Christian community across the country.”
In a statement issued on January 26, the party said it “strongly condemns the recent assault and public humiliation of a Christian Pastor in Odisha,” describing the incident as one that has raised serious concerns over the safety and dignity of religious leaders.
NPP Nagaland stated that it “fully aligns itself with the strong condemnation expressed by NPP National leaders,” including the communication addressed to the “Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha,” reiterating that “such incidents of violence and intimidation against religious leaders are unacceptable in a democratic and secular nation like India.”
Asserting that the incident strikes at constitutional values, the party said that “targeting a Pastor or any religious leader on the basis of faith is a direct attack on the Constitution of India,” and that such acts undermine “the values of harmony, tolerance, and mutual respect that bind the nation together.”
The party appealed to the Odisha government to act decisively, urging it “to ensure a fair, transparent, and time-bound investigation and to take strict legal action against all those responsible.”
It further called upon the Central Government and “concerned national authorities to closely monitor the matter and ensure the protection of freedom of religion, dignity, and personal liberty as guaranteed under the Constitution.”
NPP Nagaland also appealed to the public, calling upon “all sections of society to maintain peace and restraint and not allow divisive forces to disturb communal harmony.”
Expressing solidarity with the victim, the party stated that it “stands in solidarity with the Pastor and his family” and expressed hope “that justice will prevail through due process of law.”
The statement was issued by the Media & IPR Cell, NPP Nagaland.
