The Phek Area Mothers’ Association has expressed “deep shock, moral outrage, and profound concern” over a reported incident involving the pregnancy of a minor and the alleged involvement of an individual aged over seventy years in Phek district.
In a statement, the association described the alleged incident as a grave violation of law and morality, stressing that any sexual involvement with a minor constitutes abuse and exploitation.
“Any form of sexual involvement with a minor is a grave violation of the law, a serious abuse of power, and a fundamental breach of moral, ethical, and social responsibility,” the association stated.
Referring to the age of the accused, the association said that when such acts are associated with an elderly individual, “someone who should embody wisdom, protection, and guidance,” it represents “not only personal failure but a betrayal of societal trust.”
Emphasising that minors are incapable of giving informed consent, the association stated that “any relationship leading to a minor’s pregnancy constitutes exploitation and abuse, regardless of circumstance or justification,” warning that such acts cause “lifelong physical, emotional, psychological, and social harm to the child involved” and deeply affect the conscience of the community.
Strongly condemning the alleged act, the association called for immediate intervention by authorities, including “legal accountability under applicable child protection laws” and “full protection, care, and justice for the minor.”
It further urged law enforcement agencies to take “immediate and decisive action against the culprit, ensuring that he is held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” while also calling for greater community vigilance to ensure such abuses are neither ignored nor repeated.
Stating that silence or inaction amounts to complicity, the association said society must stand firmly against any behaviour that endangers minors and undermines their dignity, safety, and future.
The statement concluded with a clear message that abuse of minors, “by any individual, regardless of age or status,” is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
